2 hospitalized after car crashes into pole on Route 12 in Fox Lake

Two people were hospitalized and a portion of Route 12 was closed for about two hours Monday night after a single-car crash, a fire official said. Fox Lake fire crews were dispatched about 8 p.m. to Route 12 near State Park Road, Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tom Preidis said. Witnesses reported a car being driven erratically at high rates of speed on westbound Route 12, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sandra Rogers said. The driver then drove off the road to the north, and the car overturned and came to rest between two houses, Rogers said. Preidis said the car struck a telephone pole, resulting in a live wire falling across Route 12. One person was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, and the other was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, Preidis said. Rogers said both suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. The Spring Grove Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident. The road reopened by 10:15 p.m., according to a Nixle alert from the sheriff’s office. Terry Chasse said the vehicle came to rest on his property.
