ELIZABETHTON — The District 1-AA basketball tournament semifinals on Saturday night featured a little big-dog hunting at Happy Valley. The fifth-seeded Elizabethton girls, proving once and for all that it’s not how you start but how you finish, continued their late-season flip-flop, shocking top-seeded Sullivan Central for the second time in a week with a thorough 53-34 whipping. And in the nightcap, Sullivan South’s fourth-seeded boys outfought top seed Johnson County to claim a 58-50 decision. Both winners gained a first-round Region 1-AA home game after playing for their respective district championships at the beginning of the week. Monday night’s schedule calls for the girls to play their consolation game at 6 p.m., to be followed by Elizabethton against South in the 7:30 final.
