AG declines to press charges over salt

The state attorney general’s office declined to pursue criminal charges against the Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner accused of buying $105,875 worth of rock salt without going through the proper channels. In a letter dated June 12, Richard Cenar, chief of public integrity at the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, wrote that he had received a letter from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office in February “requesting charging review into allegations of official misconduct and other impropriety levelled against Andrew Gasser, Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner.” The letter went on to state that after reviewing “the McHenry County Sheriff reports and investigation ...
