Pirates batter K-Mets, earn split of four-game set

BRISTOL, Va. — Crooked numbers were all the rage Saturday night at DeVault Stadium, where the Bristol Pirates scored in chunks to hammer out a 19-5 Appalachian League win over the Kingsport Mets. The K-Mets could have cried “uncle” way early after the Pirates produced five runs in the first inning and seven more in the third, gaining a quick 12-0 lead. The BriBucs would later score four times in the fifth inning before adding a three-spot in the seventh, thus getting all 19 of their runs over just four frames. The Bristol win produced a four-game series split and flip-flopped the teams once again in the middle of the West Division standings, the Pirates (24-26) moving back into third place and Kingsport (24-27) dropping to fourth. The K-Mets have Sunday off before opening a three-game home set with the Danville Braves on Monday.
