CHURCH HILL - Shelby Irene (Overbey) Barnette, 76, Church Hill, TN passed away, Sunday, August 17, 2019 at her residence. Shelby was born in Hawkins County, TN, December 25, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Rev. Herman and Ruby Irene (Smith) Overbey. In addition to her parents, her husband, Roy McKinley Barnette; and sisters, Barbara Cloud and Reba Greer; niece, Faye Rimer; and friend and caregiver, Clayton Salling preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Retha Sams, Mount Carmel, TN and adopted daughter/granddaughter, Rebecca Barnette, Church Hill, TN; grandchildren, Austin Wade Rhoton, Zane Allan Johnson, and Ruben Hunter Johnson; sister, Brenda Dinsmore and husband, Ralph, Rogersville, TN; and brother, Glenn Herman Overbey and wife, Mary, Church Hill, TN; best friend, Vickie Manis, Church Hill, TN; her first husband and father of her daughter, Harrison Fugate, Jr., Church Hill, TN; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Retha Sams.
