Lake in the Hills businesses honored as 2019 Gordon Larsen award winners

Four Lake in the Hills businesses were recipients of the 2019 Gordon Larsen Business Achievements Awards. The awards began in 2004 as a tribute to Lake in the Hills resident Gordon Larsen, who Village President Russ Ruzanski said was influential in paving the physical and civic landscape of the village. This year, Lake in the Hills received 440 nominations for more than 30 businesses. Winning best customer service for 2019 was Butcher on the Block, which received more than 130 nominations in various categories. One nominator said if not for Butcher on the Block, his or her family would not be able to each lunchmeat since there are two people in the house with celiac disease, an autoimmune disease in which people should refrain from eating gluten because of the damage it could do to their small intestine. “They prepare our meats and cheeses on clean slicers before opening so there is no chance for cross-contamination,” the nominator said.
