Monkey sanctuary could be beginning of end for decades-old Dania Beach colony. They would be safer, fed — and sterilized

Dania Beach monkeys, descendants of a group that escaped from a breeding operation in the 1940s, can be seen at the fringes of a mangrove forest between U.S. 1 and Port Everglades, where they enjoy handouts of peanuts, fruit and candy from their human admirers. A nonprofit group is negotiating for land to create a sanctuary for them.
