To Address Dire Doctor Shortage, South Korea Proposes Less Medical Malpractice Punishment

South Korea touts world-class health care infrastructure. Before the pandemic, it had become a bustling medical tourism hotspot. In 2019, more than 90,000 people visited the country to avail themselves of cosmetic surgery there, and its own citizens have seen life expectancy shoot up to among the highest of developed countries, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. And yet, in July last year, a 37-year-old nurse died of a brain hemorrhage because of a lack of care.
