A key law to help veterans exposed to toxins in combat and training turns one year old this month. An Associated Press story profiling a Florida veteran called the bipartisan PACT Act “the largest expansion of veterans’ assistance in decades.” It was signed by President Joe Biden in 2022 and buoyed by the likes of comedian and talk show host Jon Stewart. Yet progress in one area does not eliminate the multifaceted challenges troops and veterans still face today, particularly as it relates to isolation and its close corollary — suicide.
