Jury finds street racer guilty of murder for shooting driver on I-70

The Commerce City street racer who shot and killed another driver on Interstate 70 when that driver attempted to pass an ongoing race was found guilty of first-degree murder Friday. Jeremy Rocha, 22, will be sentenced to life in prison after jurors found him guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder in the killing of 37-year-old John Jaros on June 18, 2022. Jurors unanimously rejected Rocha’s claim that he shot at Jaros’ vehicle in self-defense. Rocha opened fire as Jaros drove on I-70 with his wife and three children just west of Exit 288, near the intersection with East Colfax Avenue, in Aurora. Investigators said Rocha and three other drivers were blocking traffic on I-70 so that Rocha could race his Mustang — which he had bought earlier that day — against one of the other drivers.
