BY DARLA SLIPKE, Staff WriterDUNCAN — Coach Sandy Mitchell draped a volleyball jersey over a lectern inside First United Methodist Church and recounted the last conversation she had with one of her Duncan High School volleyball players, Katherine Hruby. It was the end of the season, and Mitchell wanted to know if Hruby was ready to be a senior leader for the Demons next year. Katherine Hruby was a prankster who sometimes would jokingly threaten to move if she was upset with her coach. At the end of their conversation, Mitchell told Hruby, who would always sit next to her coach on the bench when she wasn’t on the court, not to threaten to leave anymore. “Her last words to me were, ‘I’ll never leave you coach,’” Mitchell said Sunday during a memorial service for Hruby, 17, and her parents, John, 50, and Joy “Tinker” Hruby, 48.Read more on NewsOK.com
