Boil-water advisories

n Beckley Water Company has issued a boil-water advisory for customers on Ritter Drive in Beaver from Dicky's to Mountaineer Boat Sales, including all side streets. Also included is Blue Jay Drive from Ritter Drive to Rabbit Run in Blue Jay, including all side streets. The advisory follows a water main break.
n Pineville Municipal Water Works has issued a boil-water advisory for Pineville customers on Iris Street, Gulf Fork Road and Appalachian Highway, following a water main break.

 

City of Milton tries to revive Morris Memorial property

MILTON - The city of Milton is working to finalize plans to enter a public-private partnership to rehabilitate and develop the Morris Memorial Hospital for Crippled Children property.
No agreement or plans have been finalized, but Rodney Pell, the city's director of planning and development, said plans could be formalized as early as next week. A formal announcement will be made once the details of the plan have been legally finalized, he said.

 

Books and Brews expanding to Charleston's West Side

A Putnam County restaurant, coffee shop and bookstore plans to expand to Charleston's West Side next year. Hurricane's Books and Brews plans to add a second location at 222 West Washington Street in the Spring of 2018, business owner and manager Pat Pelley said.
Pelley opened the Hurricane business at 2759 Main Street in November 2015.

 

Morgantown coal operator Laurita indicted in alleged campaign finance scheme

Morgantown coal operator James L. Laurita Jr. allegedly schemed for more than three years to funnel illegal campaign contributions to four candidates for federal political office, according to an indictment made public this week.

 

Bulletin Board: Sept. 20, 2017

The annual West Virginia State University Homecoming 5-kilometer run/walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday on the plaza of the James C. Wilson University Union. The cost is $20 in advance of the race. Registration will also be available on the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the portal of Keith Scholars Hall. Race day registration is $25. Proceeds will benefit WVSU women's athletics. The annual 5k run/walk is part of homecoming activities at WVSU, which run Sept. 28-30.

n West Virginia American Water has issued a boil-water advisory for customers along the 1700 block of 10th Avenue in Huntington. The advisory follows a water main break.
n West Virginia American Water has issued a boil-water advisory for customers along U.S. 60 from Woodland Drive to Monel River Avenue (3300 block of U.S. 60) in Huntington. The advisory follows a water main break.

 

New Buffalo interchange discussed at public meeting on road bond

WINFIELD - Updated plans for U.S. 35 in Putnam County now feature an interchange at Buffalo.
The plan was announced Tuesday at a public meeting on the proposed road bond amendment and the U.S. 35-Toyota Interchange.
Sen. Glenn Jeffries (D-Putnam) hosted the meeting, allowing residents to learn more about the amendment and how it will affect Putnam County if it passes.

 

Nitro council votes to support road bond

Nitro City Council unanimously voted to support Gov. Jim Justice's Roads to Prosperity amendment, which will be brought before the voters on Oct. 7.
If passed, this bond will not increase taxes. During the 2017 Legislative session, numerous tax increases were passed, including a gas tax increase, Division of Motor Vehicle fee increase and toll increases; these increases make up the revenue that will fund the $1.6 billion road bond. The city approved a resolution to support it.

 

WV Gov. Justice appoints Foster's replacement to House

The West Virginia governor appointed an auditor from Cross Lanes to fill a vacant seat in the House of Delegates on Tuesday.
Dianna Graves will take over the Putnam County seat vacated by Nancy Foster, who resigned Sept. 1. Graves currently works as an auditor for Suttle & Stalnaker, an accounting firm in Charleston.

 

PHOTOS: Clearing out mold at Capital High

A cleaning crew set to work Tuesday to remove mold from Capital High School in Charleston. Air testing done at the school over the last few weeks revealed mold and carbon dioxide in a little less than a third of the building. Students were dismissed Monday and the school was set to be closed through at least Friday while the building is being cleaned.
