Susan Wayman took up gardening simply because she needed something to do while her children played outside. Thirty years, numerous gardening books and countless weeds pulled later, Wayman is still at it. Garden lovers who participated in the McHenry County Master Gardeners Garden Walk admired Wayman’s garden a decade ago when it was a part of the self-guided tour. Now, Wayman’s garden once again will be a stop on the annual garden walk, but this time she is honored with being this year’s featured garden. “I just started planting flowers, and it kept growing,” Wayman said, “and now [my children] are all grown up and I’m still going.” Rounded plots of soil expands out into Wayman’s yard, curving in and out from the front of her home to the back, completely filled with plants.
