When Michael Malone peers down the sideline toward the opposing bench, he doesn’t see the Timberwolves coach everyone is familiar with. He sees someone even more familiar. Malone has always carpooled to work with assistant coach Ryan Bowen, but it used to be a three-man ride share during the first three seasons of Malone’s tenure in Denver.

A Castle Rock man pleaded guilty on Monday to stabbing his mother to death before setting a house on fire in 2022. Matthew Buchanan, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder, one count of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first-degree and one count of criminal attempt to commit aggravated cruelty to animals — the latter for leaving dogs inside of the house before setting it ablaze. Ten other counts were dismissed as part of a plea deal, including one first-degree murder charge, two animal cruelty charges, three first-degree arson charges, one charge of tampering with a dead body, one charge of tampering with physical evidence, one charge of criminal mischief and one charge of threatening or obscene harassment via telephone. “It’s despicable to learn a son would kill his own mother in a brutal act of violence,” said John Kellner, district attorney for the 18th Judicial District, in a news release.

The remains of a 19-year-old soldier from Cortez who went missing during the Korean War were identified in August, more than 70 years after his death. A teen with developmental disabilities was reported missing in Loveland on Monday, according to an endangered missing alert from the Johnstown Police Department. Tristan Bridges-Taapken, 15, was last seen Sunday around 6:30 p.m. at the Target on Rocky Mountain Avenue in Loveland, police say. He is described as a 5-foot, 10-inch, 150-pound white boy with brown hair and brown eyes.

Colorado’s first-round series began with a couple of clear advantages for the Avalanche and a couple for the Winnipeg Jets — at least on paper. The margins in this series ahead of Game 1 are much, much tighter. All six of these categories could say “even” at the end of them, and it wouldn’t entirely be a bit. Who has the edge? Part of the Regional Transportation District’s A Line light rail train will be replaced by shuttle buses on Tuesday for maintenance, according to a Monday RTD news release. Shuttle buses will run between Union and Central Park stations from 2:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday while RTD repairs a signal issue near the 38th/Blake Station. Travelers can board a shuttle bus at Central Park gate B3, 40th/Colorado gate B and 38th/Blake in front of the station.
