Andrew White admits he threw the piece of broccoli and hit the wrong kid, setting off an epic food fight that got him and many of his classmates an in-school suspension for several days. Three decades later, White, now 45 and a successful Houston entrepreneur, is running for governor as a conservative, pro-life, pro-business, common sense Democrat, a contradiction in terms that has many of the party faithful girding for another fight, a political throwdown over the future of the Texas Democratic Party -- especially if White should be successful.
