Dick Gregory, the U.S. comedian and activist who inspired a generation of black stand-up performers, joined Martin Luther King Jr. in the struggle for civil rights and ran for president against Richard Nixon, has died, the Associated Press reported, citing his son. He was 84. Gregory died late Saturday in Washington, D.C., after being hospitalized for about a week with a severe bacterial infection, AP reported his son Christian as saying.
