Colorado Springs police were forced to shoot a dog Wednesday afternoon while responding to a report of domestic violence that led to two arrests. Police were called to the 1200 block of Alexander Road about 4:45 p.m., where a woman said that a man, later identified as Joshua Shankland, 27, had threatened her with a knife and wouldn't let her out of a car. He was found nearly two miles away, in the 2000 block of East Jackson Street. His dog lunged at officers twice, and officers responded by shooting the dog, police said. The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region took the dog away, and it is expected to survive, police said.
