By a 3-0 vote, Effingham County commissioners agreed to pay $900,000 for 76 acres of land on the west side of Ga. 21, just south of Springfield, so they can build a centralized recreation complex. The complex would be built with a new special-purpose local-option sales tax (SPLOST) that will be presented to voters in about two years. It would have five baseball and softball fields with batting cages and covered bleachers; one football field; one soccer field; a large playground with ADA features; a pressbox-restroom-concession building; three picnic pavilions; and a maintenance building.
