The Denver Medical Examiner has declared the death of an 82-year-old woman a homicide and is blaming her death on wounds she suffered because of neglect. Lillie Griffin, 82, died on Feb. 17 at Denver Hospice Inpatient Care Center, where she had been taken after Colorado’s Adult Protective Services determined her caretakers were neglecting her, a Denver Medical Examiner Office news release said Wednesday. Griffin’s death remains an open investigation at the Denver Police Department, said Doug Schepman, a police spokesman. Griffin had “complex medical issues and was completely reliant upon others to provide care and facilitate activities of daily living,” the coroner said. Griffin had been living in a nursing home, but her family removed her from the facility.
