Walter G. Byers Elementary, one of the lowest scorers on reading and math results released Wednesday, was tagged Thursday to move into Charlotte-Mecklenburg's “achievement zone.”Superintendent Peter Gorman created the zone in 2007 to provide help to low-performing schools.Byers, on the northwest edge of uptown, serves some of the city's most impoverished neighborhoods.
