Ex-Blizzard CCO Rob Pardo has noticed a lot of persistent world online games avoid using the descriptive term "MMO," and he has a theory as to why. According to Pardo, use of the term "MMO" or "massively multiplayer online game" is a loaded description that ultimately leads games to be compared with traditional MMOs like World of Warcraft. “What you’re starting to see now is people are creating persistent world games with lots of players,” he told Develop.
