Issues of immigration and post-war justice came jarringly into focus with the conclusion of an exhaustive two-year Associated Press investigation in which it was determined that dozens of former Nazis collectively received millions of dollars in Social Security benefits from the United States. Worse yet, once these former Nazis were discovered, the payments continued even after they were expelled from the country, and the money was even said to have been used as a tool to get them to leave the United States peacefully.
