Haugen said it was cheaper to place "hateful" ads on Facebook because they get more engagement. Haugen said Facebook's pricing was partially based on how likely users are to interact with an ad. Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen told British lawmakers Monday that placing "hateful, angry, divisive" ads on the company's platform worked out cheaper than placing other kinds of adverts.Haugen, who worked on Facebook's civic integrity team before departing the company in May, appeared at a parliamentary select committee meeting about three weeks after she testified in front of the US Congress.
