In an age without the Internet and Ancestry.com, Wright did research into family trees by going to libraries and writing letters to probate, circuit courts and county clerk's offices, according to Enterprise archives. Wright earned the Award of Merit in Historic Preservation from the Texas Historical Commission for her efforts cleaning up abandoned cemeteries in counties throughout Southeast Texas. Wright became a member of the Jefferson County Historical Commission after she and her husband did some work for the Sam Houston Regional Library in the early 1970s. Wright was then asked to research a site for a marker commemorating a Spanish War era barricade in Sabine Pass. In 2000, Wright described the museum as "...Beaumont's best-kept secret." Exhibits she oversaw include topics such as archaeology, baseball and confederate Army veterans.
