The man told firefighters his smoke alarm woke him up and he soon found the kitchen on fire, Stromberg said. He tried to put out the flames with an extinguisher, but that didn’t work so he evacuated, Stromberg said. Twenty-one firefighters responded and brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes.
