Five questions with Grambling State beat writer Sean Isabella Each Wednesday throughout Cal’s football season, The Chronicle is catching up with a beat reporter for the Bears’ upcoming opponent. In his first season at Grambling State in 2014, head coach Broderick Fobbs oversaw a six-win improvement. Fobbs played at Grambling and has ties within the alumni base. Grambling gave up far too many last year and is trying to make teams march down the field instead of scoring in just a few plays. The running game was among the worst in the SWAC last year, and while I expect it to improve, the Tigers will make their most damage through the air. Grambling also added Cameron White, a TCU transfer who missed last year due to concussions. Two years ago, Grambling State was in the national spotlight when players went on strike to protest subpar facilities, equipment and travel arrangements. Right off the bat, Grambling put about $30,000 into a new weight room. The football offices have been updated a bit and the locker room has been spruced up. Grambling has the athletes to compete but lacks depth. Since it's the first game, it's honestly hard to say if Grambling actually loses by that much. Grambling played poorly in its first three games of 2014, including a 47-0 loss to Houston, but ended up finishing the year at 7-5.
