Photo-sharing service Flickr is facing a wave of public outcry over its new auto-tagging system, which labeled images of black people with tags such as “ape” and “animal,” and tagged pictures of concentration camps with “sport” or “jungle gym,” the Guardian reported Wednesday. The company, owned by Yahoo, removed the tags and said in a statement Thursday: Even though the technology is advanced, sometimes it makes mistakes, including the ones mentioned in the Guardian story.
