When a massive vehicle like a passenger bus makes its rounds, the engine produces plenty of get-up-and-go. Unfortunately, in most stop-and-go traffic situations much of that energy is wasted as the brakes are applied at each traffic light or stop. The innovative Flybus concept — a collaboration of several companies including transmission maker Allison and bus manufacturer Optare — changes that by storing some of the precious kinetic energy and reusing it when needed.
