The billionaire founder of Berkshire Hathaway told tens of thousands of shareholders during an annual meeting that a deepfake video of his created by AI “scares the hell out of him” and that the technology was like a “nuclear weapons genie.” The fake video of the 93-year-old was reportedly convincing enough that the philanthropist himself said he could imagine it tricking him into sending money overseas.

A cryptocurrency trader has reportedly fallen victim to a sophisticated “address poisoning” scam, resulting in the loss of tens of millions of dollars. Address poisoning is a type of fraud where scammers create fake accounts that mimic their victim’s online crypto address. They then send a small amount of currency to the victim, hoping that the victim will later accidentally send money to the fake address, according to crypto trading service Transak. The public nature of blockchains makes it easy for scammers to find people’s crypto addresses and launch these phishing attacks.

Bluesky has confirmed the departure of Jack Dorsey from its board with the decentralized social media platform now seeking a replacement to take his place at the top table.  Having assisted the fledgling app in its initial stages, Bluesky publicly thanked the Twitter co-founder for his contribution, adding it wants to appoint a new representative “who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience.” Following the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk and the subsequent rebranding to X, Dorsey now appears to have aligned himself with the direction and ethos of X, as outlined in the post below when he wrote the following endorsement:  “Don’t depend on corporations to grant you rights.

Threads, the social media platform linked to Instagram, has made a few tweaks to give users more control over how their posts are quoted. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the update on his account over the weekend, saying, “The ability to limit who can quote your Threads posts is now available to everyone.” Threads quote permissions Mosseri continued that users can now customize their permissions to tailor their interactions on the social soapbox.
