Former Cedar Rapids Patrol Sgt. Lucas Jones — who was fired from the department on June 18 — will assert that his firing was an act of retaliation as a part of his defense in the civil hearing to appeal his termination. The police department said Jones was fired after a monthslong investigation into accusations that he had violated department rules and policies during a traffic stop on October 30, 2016 and later lied about it.
