The Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery is probably best known as a leader of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement and co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. But his advocacy for equality extended beyond the mid-century. He parlayed his civil rights activism of the 1950s and 1960s into modern-day advocacy for those who needed it most — students and workers. Lowery died March 27 at his home in Atlanta.
