Future Of Portland’s Ferry Service Remains Uncertain

PORTLAND, Maine — Portland’s ferry service may leave the city for Bar Harbor despite having a successful year. Bay Ferries CEO Mark MacDonald tells the Portland Press Herald the company hasn’t made a decision about the Cat ferry. The Canadian firm has until Nov. 30 to decide whether it will renew its lease for the Ocean Gateway terminal following two deadline extensions. The Cat saw a 20 percent increase in ridership this year compared to 2017.
