A Gaffney man drowned in a neighborhood pond Wednesday evening, according to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office. Firefighters found the body of Odilo Ramirez, of 536 James St., about 15 feet from the shore of the James Street pond around 9:45 p.m., said Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler. Witnesses said he had tried to swim from shore to shore in the roughly 100 yard pond while wearing socks and shoes, Fowler said.
