(AP) — Patricio Garino scored 27 points and Joe McDonald hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:11 remaining Saturday and George Washington beat VCU 72-69, ending the Rams' 12-game winning streak. McDonald and Tyler Cavanaugh each scored 11 for the Colonials (18-5, 7-3 Atlantic 10), who took their first lead of the second half on a basket by Kevin Larsen with 3 minutes to play. The Rams scored the next six points, but the Colonials forced back-to-back turnovers and pulled even again on Garino's fourth 3-pointer from right in front of his bench. Two free throws by Mo Alie-Cox and a driving basket by Melvin Johnson gave the Rams the lead back at 69-66, but Cavanaugh hit a jumper in traffic and after the Rams were called for an offensive foul, and McDonald got loose for a wide-open 3-pointer, putting the Colonials ahead to stay.
