(AP) — To determine the impact of the new field houses recently opened at Gautier and Pascagoula high schools, all you had to do was see the reaction of the student-athletes as they walked through for their first tour. The new field houses are part of a five-year $10 million plan to upgrade athletic facilities in the Pascagoula School District. Many of the logos painted on the walls at Gautier's field house have a Gator skin background, a minor detail that Peterson loves. Pascagoula School District superintendent Wayne Rodolfich promised that the two weight rooms would be the "crown jewels" of weight rooms at the high school level in Mississippi, and all involved believe the end product is just that. Every room in the two buildings has a college feel to it -- whether it's sliding compartments in the equipment room or the spacious locker rooms for players and coaches. Flat screen TVs can also be found in the locker room and in the coaches' offices. Peterson describes the new training room as "state of the art" and a major step forward for the program after players were often treated on a training table set up in a hallway at the old field house.
