General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) is in discussions with Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHI) about a possible deal — but not an acquisition. The Wall Street Journal and Reuters both reported that Boston-based GE approached the oil field services giant about a possible acquisition, citing people familiar with the matter.
