During the regular season, Sandoval saw an average of 3.53 pitches per plate appearance. Through Game 3, he had 15 hits this postseason, all singles. The question is whether Posey’s timing is off, or if he is succumbing to good pitching, which often happens to big hitters in the postseason. The best example is Barry Bonds, who hit .196 with one homer in his first 27 postseason games before his breakout in 2002. The staff saw good signs from Posey in Game 3, including his first-inning lineout to right against Jeremy Guthrie and deep fly to left against closer Greg Holland in the ninth.
