Newcomer Eduardo Nunez, who probably had no idea the Giants were 16-for-116 since the break with runners in scoring position, roped a bases-loaded double to ignite a three-run rally. Hunter Pence made the day complete by making his first appearance in 49 games and doubled off the wall in his first at-bat. The Giants entered the day with the majors’ second lowest average with runners in scoring position since the break, and they added seven hitless at-bats to the list before Nunez stepped to the plate in the fourth inning with the Giants trailing 3-0. Nunez, acquired Thursday in a trade with the Twins, lashed a double to right-center that scored Brandon Belt and Joe Panik, and Mac Williamson slid headfirst into the plate moments later when Angel Pagan grounded to first. Panik’s sacrifice fly was the difference, and Pence scored when Trevor Brown drew a bases-loaded walk from Blake Treinen. Before the three-run rally, it was more of the same for the Giants, who had lost 11 of 13 since the break: [...] remember, this came a day after the Giants hit into the first 3-3-5 double play in big-league history. The Giants were hoping Pence would bring energy into a struggling team, and he certainly was noticeable and welcomed. Peavy lasted just four innings and 74 pitches and exited for a pinch-runner, Williamson, who walked and scored on the groundout.
