After their biennial pregame bling ceremony, the Giants played their cleanest overall game in more than a week and beat the Diamondbacks 4-1, ending an eight-game losing streak. Rookie pitcher Chris Heston held the Diamondbacks to one run in 72/3 innings, lowering his ERA over three starts to 0.87, and Brandon Crawford hit a two-run home run into the arcade, which gave him two hits in 30 at-bats — both homers. The 14-karat gold rings included an interlocking SF set in yellow gold and 55 round melee diamonds, plus three round diamonds on top and five below, representing three titles in five years (and eight in franchise history), framed by the words “WORLD” and “CHAMPIONS.” General manager Brian Sabean and Bochy were the first recipients, and when the players got theirs, they shook the hands of five Giants Hall of Famers sitting in front of the plate. Former third base coach Tim Flannery not only got a ring, but also performed a cool rendition of the national anthem. Nori Aoki, who played on the Royals team the Giants beat in the World Series, doubled to open the first inning and scored on Joe Panik’s single, and Buster Posey hit a broken-bat RBI single in the third. Heston scattered five hits, including David Peralta’s fourth-inning homer. Heston is the Giants’ first rookie in a century to open a season with three starts of six or more innings with no more than one run yielded.
