A couple of young guns from Coronado are keeping the competition on its toes after the first round of the 67th Edwards-Zuloaga Golf Tournament on Saturday. Despite some sturdy wind gusts, Noah Nicks, a junior at Coronado High School, leads the tournament after posting an even-par 71. "I didn't play as well as I should have, I definitely missed a lot of strokes and left a lot of putts out there," Nicks said. Through the first nine holes, Nick was 1-under, then birdied at holes 10 and 11, but then he hit a bit of a rough patch on his way to the club house. "I had a few bumps on the road on 13 to 15 and missed a few birdies coming up the stretch and then finished with an unfortunate bogey at 18, it put me at even, but I was pretty satisfied with my play, I learned a lot from that round," Nicks said. Nicks has a one-shot lead over his Coronado teammate Greg Yellin and former Hanks standout Daniel Medina, who are tied for second with 1-over par 72. "I had a lot of greens, got up and down when I missed the greens, I just didn't make too many birdie putts," said Yellin, a sophomore at Coronado.Read more on NewsOK.com
