Governor Snyder Says Retirement Benefit Reform Allows For Transparency, Accountability

Governor Rick Snyder said changes made to address unfunded local government retirement benefits is one of the biggest legislative accomplishments from the past year.Some local governments offer retired employees what's called "other post-employment benefits," in addition to a pension. Unlike pensions, however, municipalities aren't required to set any money aside to pay for these benefits and many have chosen not to.
