Gun Rights Advocates Share Message During Walk Across University Of Akron Campus

With rifles slung over their shoulders and handguns holstered on their hips, about 40 gun rights advocates walked across the University of Akron campus and to Lock 3 Park downtown Saturday.The University of Akron Open Carry/Firearm Education Walk, organized by a Cincinnati firearms instructor, was designed to raise awareness about gun rights, particularly for college students.“The main thrust with this is to get concealed carry on campus,” said organizer Jeffry Smith, 56, who led similar walks last year at the University of Cincinnati and Ohio State University.While open carry is legal in Ohio, concealed carry on campuses is not.
