A room full of Harlem residents cheered after city leaders denied requests to rezone two properties for multi-family housing. Residents showed up in force at Monday’s City Council meeting and a May 14 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting to vehemently oppose the two rezonings that would make way for a 125-unit apartment complex and a 48-unit senior housing project along a main entryway into the city. “Harlem is our hometown and we’re fighting to preserve it,” said Gina Bennett, who lives directly across from the proposed apartment complex. read more
