Battalion Chief Bryan Pierce of the Harvard Fire Protection District was appointed to acting fire chief during a special trustee meeting Monday after the resignation of former Chief Steve Harter last week. Pierce has been employed at the Harvard Fire Protection District since 1997. During this time, Pierce ascended through the ranks from firefighter to battalion chief, according to a news release from Harvard Fire Protection District Board President Roger Hugg. Harter resigned effective immediately last week, citing “personal reasons,” but wished to continue to serve as a firefighter and EMT, which the board accepted. Hugg had said in the news release that a replacement fire chief would be selected through a competitive testing process conducted by a nonpartisan testing agency.
