Using Census Bureau data, the career website Zippia, listed the top 10 states for population loss from 2017 to 2018, ranked by the percentage of the population that moved to another state. Hawaii ranked No. 5, with the 7,047 residents who left amounting to 0.5% of the population. According to Zippia, Hawaii residents decamped for California, Texas, Nevada, Washington and North Carolina. In the top spot, New York state lost just over 307,000 residents, or 1.57% of its population.
