"After talking to the teachers' union, other staff and board members, he's decided it's important to show appreciation for veteran teachers," Houston Independent School District spokesman Jason Spencer said Thursday. Lower-paid central office staff, bus drivers and hourly food services employees would get the largest increases, 2.25 percent.
