By Graham Lee Brewer, Staff WriterA part of state history and a once-iconic symbol of the local television industry is being retired, as workers in Oklahoma City this week began dismantling what once was the tallest tower in the world. Crews began preparations to take the KWTV-9 television tower down two weeks ago, and on Tuesday the first segments — the antenna and a top portion — were removed, a station spokesman said. The tower is near Britton Road and Kelley Avenue in northeast Oklahoma City.
