A Hoffman Estates man was sentenced to prison Friday based on claims that he possessed between 1 and 4 pounds of marijuana when officers arrested him in July. Omar R. Edwards, 34, of the 2000 block of Bayberry Lane, accepted an offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office on Friday and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver between 500 and 2,000 grams of marijuana. McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather sentenced Edwards to 3½ years in prison as a result of the negotiated plea. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss more serious charges, including a Class X felony ecstasy charge, that threatened as many as 30 years in prison if convicted. Edwards has been in the McHenry County Jail since July 28, when officers were called to Port Edward restaurant, 20 W.
