How Police Reliance On Confidential Informants In Colorado Carries Risk

A Denver Post investigation into the use of confidential informants by law-enforcement agencies in Colorado found many cases in which information informants provided turned out to be wrong or unsupported by evidence. There is no law in the state regulating whom investigators recruit to work as informants, how informants are rewarded, how the information informants provide is handled or how officers and informants are held accountable when things go wrong.
