Marvelous. Riveting. Powerful. Emotional. Classic. Epic. Take your pick, Richard Linklater's "Boyhood" fills them all. I know it's only July. I know the year is only halfway over. I know that 90% of Oscar nominees are released in the fourth quarter. But even still, "Boyhood" is leading the pack and if Linklater doesn't receive a Directing Oscar for this crowning achievement, I will picket the Dolby Theater at every ceremony until I die.
